Prayer for Nomination and Election of CPCHEA’s Council

In a previous update, we promised more details on the procedure to nominate and elect members to replace the retired CPCHEA council members. In this update, we are calling for members to pray for God to provide suitable people to serve on the council and to pray for successful nominations and election.

As you prayerfully consider whom to nominate for the four openings on the CPCHEA board, remember that we hope for a regional balance. As we pray, let us ask God to give us wisdom to think of those in Africa who may be suitable servants for Africa to serve in CPCHEA’s Council. When you are sure God has led you to the suitable person, kindly email your nomination to the CPCHEA Executive Director.

Present Regional Representation

in CPCHEA Council

  • East Africa — Isaac Mutua (executive director), Beth Wangari (secretary) and Esther Chege (treasurer) — this is for registration purposes.
  • West Africa — Albert Tshibangu
  • Southern Africa — Samson Makhado and Derrick Mashau (IAPCHE Board member).
  • Central Africa — No representative
  • Northern Africa — No representative

Two of the retiring board members came from South Africa (B.J. van der Walt, Primrose Kurasha), one from West Africa (Emmanuel Ayee), and one from Kenya (Mary Muchiri).

IAPCHE is currently in the process of voting for a new African representative on the IAPCHE board. Isaac Mutua stepped down to pave the way for more involvement at the IAPCHE level. The current election is between Joseph Ilori and Aiden Msafiri. The elected IAPCHE board member will automatically qualify for CPCHEA Council for as long as he serves on the IAPCHE board. That is why we are conducting the CPCHEA nomination/election process after the conclusion of IAPCHE’s election on November 20.

Regional Balance

It is crucial for members to understand that during nominations, regional balance should be considered. Presently, CPCHEA has members in four regions*:

  • West countries in the Economic Community of West African States;
  • Central representing countries such as Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Equatorial Guinea;
  • East comprising countries such as Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi; and
  • Southern including Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, and Madagascar.

*This is general categorization. The above list is not exhaustive.

Although CPCHEA has no members in the Northern African region (Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, etc.), they are very much in our operating strategy.

Deadline for nominations

Kindly commit the month of December to prayer for the wisdom to nominate and submit your nominations by January 31, 2010.
