C P C H E A - Centre for the Promotion of Christian Higher Education in Africa
Welcome to 2010

We praise God for last year’s success. In the new year, we anticipate

  • enrichment program in Nigeria for the Western region
  • enrichment program in Kenya for the Eastern region
  • enrichment program in Zambia for the Southern region.
  • more institutional and individual membership, and, above all,
  • the removal of the language barrier by translating our website work and other materials into French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

We shall approach institutions, individuals and churches to financially support us in the above regional functions.

Two Journals Call for Papers

CPCHEAsponsors the African Journal for Transformational Scholarship which is accessed free online. It also co-sponsors Christian Higher Education which is commercially published by Taylor & Francis, Publishers in London, England, not affiliated with any church, religious association, or denomination. Both journals are calling for papers.

African Journal for Transformational Scholarship (AJTS)

AJTS is a peer reviewed journal that aims to encourage high quality academic research focused on issues relevant to the contemporary African situation. While it especially aims to encourage African academic endeavour, it welcomes contributions from anywhere in the world. All contributions are expected to meet the following criteria:

  1. An acceptable academic standard. As well as providing a forum for experienced academics, the journal also wishes to encourage novices to publish their work and will assist, if necessary, in ensuring an acceptable academic standard for contributions that show promise.
  2. Relevance to contemporary issues. While the primary focus is on issues in the African situation, the globalisation of human life means that these are commonly linked to global issues. For this reason, the acceptance of a contribution does not necessarily depend on its showing a close knowledge of the African situation.
  3. Insights that are grounded in the Gospel. This does not mean that they must be theological in nature—though theological contributions are welcome. What is expected is evidence of an engagement with the issue that maintains the integrity of the relevant discipline.

Send papers to either Prof. Stuart Fowler (AJTS Managing Editor) or Rev. Isaac N. Mutua (CPCHEA Executive Director).

Laptop Donated

We praise God for the funds for a laptop for our French translator in Congo, DR. After our request in a December update, we received a pledge of US $500 for the project from one of our members. We are encouraged this support!

Christian Higher Education (CHE)

CHE is a peer reviewed journal of research and practice,is a global chronicle for thepublication of papers from practitioners and scholars in all academic disciplines and professions. CHE is committed to three crucial notions:

  1. CHE  is open to discussions of the relationship of religious faith to research,teaching, learning, and administration;
  2. CHE is among God's answers to the premiere, high visibility secular journals in the field of higher education; and
  3. CHE continuously encourages the paradigmatic shift of research in Christian higher education from the philosophical, impressionistic and anecdotal to the experimental, qualitative, and quantitative.

CHE is currently soliciting papers about developments being innovated and tested by those engaged in the study and practice of Christian higher education. The journal publishes essays that explore problems and discuss issues in depth. Innovative projects reported are at the cutting edge of progress and provide insights into ways and means of improving the modern practice of Christian higher education.  Research papers published in the journal are clearly rooted in solid analytical methodologies, whether quantitative or qualitative.  All materials published in CHE serve as original contributions to the growing literature in the field of Christian higher education.

Timely reviews of subjects and books of interest to faculty, administrators, counselors, researchers, curriculum developers, scholars, and others will be considered for publication. All papers, including figures, tables, and references, must conform to the specifications contained in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5 ed., 2000).  Papers that do not adhere to this style will be returned.  All papers should contain an abstract (on a separate page) which does not exceed 250 words. Send to the Editor-in-Chief at lumsden@unt.edu
